Solomonic breaks new ground with key Court of Appeal documents and County Court judgments

Users can now search more than 500 permission to appeal application decisions. Solomonic are also providing noteworthy and never previously published County Court judgments.

Solomonic, the litigation data and analytics platform used by more than 12,500 litigation professionals, has announced a series of major additions that bring unique, previously unavailable sources into the platform. Aided by more precise search, the additions give users even greater depth of litigation intelligence, especially for key moments in litigation.

The latest releases add over 500 searchable Court of Appeal permission to appeal application decisions and County Court judgments that are not available anywhere else. Solomonic has also deepened its intelligence on the solicitors behind major cases and launched a redesigned Boolean search that lets users build far more sophisticated queries.

Delivered over the summer and September, the releases continue to enrich and deepen the litigation intelligence platform that already holds millions of data points on complex, commercial English disputes.

Edward Bird, CEO of Solomonic, said: “What sets Solomonic apart is intelligence you can't get anywhere else. Leading chambers are sharing County Court judgments that have never been published, law firms are telling us who is leading their biggest cases and we have gone directly to the court to obtain Court of Appeal orders no one else is making searchable.

We've made it a priority to seek out the sources of litigation intelligence that have never been accessible and to bring them into one easy to explore place. The result is a level of insight that simply wasn't available before and brings competitive advantage to every practitioner.”

New sources, only on Solomonic

Solomonic has added Court of Appeal permission to appeal (PTA) granted and refused application decisions as searchable documents, obtained directly from the court and covering January 2025 onwards. More than 500 PTA orders have been added so far and the collection continues to grow. The orders are not available through the court's tracker tool or anywhere else. Using Solomonic's Document Search tool, users can search the full text of the orders, giving anyone weighing an appeal or an application for permission a new level of insight.

The orders sit within Solomonic's Court of Appeal Module, which links each appeal to its first instance claim and tracks it through to judgment. Users can be alerted when appeals are lodged in key cases and when activity takes place, without relying on a separate tracker.

Solomonic is also adding a small but growing number of County Court judgments and judicial decisions that are not digitally available anywhere else. Sourced directly from leading chambers and barristers, they contain arguments on complex, novel issues that practitioners can learn from. Solomonic is committed to growing the collection covering judgments published on BAILII and welcomes contributions from further chambers and barristers.

Knowing who’s behind the case

Solomonic already captures solicitor names from claim forms, particulars of claim and judgment analysis. Now leading law firms are also sharing details of the lead partners on their commercial cases, adding intelligence on the people behind big ticket litigation. More than 800 cases have been updated in recent months, adding to intelligence on almost 6,000 solicitors, giving an increasingly useful view of who is leading on the biggest disputes.

Party profiles are getting sharper too. Three new attributes (country of registration, Companies House number for UK-registered entities and Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) where available) are live on selected profiles and will roll out more widely as records are verified.

Getting to the answer faster

More data is only useful if you can find the right part of it. Solomonic has launched a completely redesigned filtering system with Boolean logic built in, so users can go beyond basic filtering and build the layered, precise queries that complex litigation research demands. Users can match any, all or none of their criteria, within a filter and across filters, so they can include some legal matters, courts or firms while excluding others in a single search.

Together, the releases mean users can see more of what is happening in litigation, access the underlying documents directly and ask more precise questions of it. Solomonic will continue to work with firms, chambers and the courts to bring more of that intelligence into view.
