Linklaters and Solomonic opt-in to develop leading Competition Tribunal litigation analytics

Magic circle firm Linklaters partner with UK’s leading data powered litigation intelligence platform Solomonic to deliver forthcoming Competition Appeal Tribunal analytics offering.

The UK’s leading litigation data and analytics platform, Solomonic, is gearing up for its most eagerly anticipated data analytics project to date, in a strategic partnership with leading global law firm Linklaters. This is in preparation for the launch of its UK Competition litigation module, which will include the first analytics on the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) - marking a milestone in UK court analysis.

To ensure the module captures the most valuable and robust data points, it is being developed in close collaboration with leading solicitors in the area.

The CAT is known for its expertise in adjudicating cases related to competition and economic regulatory matters, frequently handling some of the highest-value cases and many high-profile class action lawsuits. It has presided over a multitude of precedent setting cases in the realm of competition law, which has shaped the application of such laws in the jurisdiction.

The project will analyse the entire corpus of competition judicial decisions, all Competition List judgments and over 350 CAT decisions. The analysis will look at outcome patterns as well as legal and factual subject matter trends. Solomonic already has extensive data on over 240 Competition List claims since 2014.

As project partners, Linklaters will work closely alongside the analysis process and gain early access to the data in the development of the module. Sarina Williams, Partner at Linklaters commented, “We are thrilled to be working with Solomonic on shaping this module which will provide robust and rich insights on competition litigation in the UK for the first time. Our competition litigation team is at the forefront of advising on the most significant competition disputes in the English High Court and the CAT, and we are excited to be able to use that expertise to shape this data for the benefit of clients and others in the market.

Edward Bird, Solomonic CEO, described the partnership with Linklaters as a proof point of the growing scaleup’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge insights to the market: “We’ve been listening to the market’s demands for data insights from us on CAT, and we can’t wait to be able to deliver these very soon”.

Bird added, “We are excited to collaborate with such an esteemed and expert firm. The CAT handles some of the most compelling, landmark cases and is a globally relevant court in the UK legal system. We expect that the analytics will provide new insights into essential trends and legal areas for practitioners and their clients. We are also looking forward to exploring the predictability of competition decisions.

Solomonic expects to launch the new module to the market in the spring of 2024. The upcoming offering will be a bespoke module that sits alongside Solomonic’s extensive analysis of commercial cases in the UK High Court. This analysis is already being used by world leading businesses and law firms to stay on top of the litigation market, win more business, and advise clients with data-driven intelligence.
