FCA mentioned in 3.3% of Solomonic documents

1,500+ searchable documents mention key UK regulatory, oversight and enforcement bodies FCA, SFO, FOS, PRA and CMA.

In October, we launched our new Document Search tool, which lets Solomonic users search within the full text of court documents - including claim forms, particulars, orders and defence filings. Instead of trawling manually, practitioners can now instantly locate relevant terms, phrases and references inside any available document on the Solomonic platform. Our repository grows daily and is already approaching 32,000 documents.

This introduces a new level of discovery beyond our existing structured tagging (topics, legal matters, remedies and more). Document Search enables you to look for highly specific mentions, nuanced terminology and contextual references.

To showcase the capabilities of this tool, we analysed how often five key UK regulatory, oversight and enforcement bodies are mentioned in High Court documents: the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), Serious Fraud Office (SFO), Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS), Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

This reveals a notable relationship between these organisations and the courts. More than 1,500 documents mention at least one of these five bodies.

The FCA has the most significant footprint, appearing in over 1,000 documents, which represents around 3.3% of all documents currently available to be searched on the platform. Given the FCA’s role in regulating the wider UK financial services industry, it is perhaps unsurprising to see it feature heavily across banking, investment, lending, consumer credit and fraud-related litigation. Its broad consumer protection mandate and focus on financial misconduct mean it is commonly referenced in civil disputes.

The SFO deals with high-value and complex criminal fraud, bribery and corruption cases and appears in almost 200 documents. This suggests a sizeable volume of fraud-related litigation intersects with their remit. Fraud claim numbers have remained relatively consistent from 2020-2024, accounting for between 10-13% of claim forms analysed year-on-year.

The FOS, CMA and PRA are referenced less frequently, but clearly still influential where relevant to the dispute.

It is important to note that this analysis is not intended to imply any trends in mentions over time. The numbers reflect how much material our Document Search allows you to explore and how often these bodies appear in searchable documents on the Solomonic platform.
