Pinsent Masons partners with Solomonic to develop IP disputes analytics module

International law firm Pinsent Masons is partnering with litigation analytics provider Solomonic to develop an IP disputes analytics module to support the firms clients and support its data-driven focus on risks, claims and avoiding disputes.

Solomonic, a litigation data start-up, analyses judicial decisions to identify trends, precedents and patterns from previous rulings, all of which inform key litigation decisions. This collaboration will mean that in addition to a subscription to the platforms existing modules for the Commercial and Chancery courts, Pinsent Masons IP lawyers will work with the Solomonic team to develop a new module combining the firms experience and insight as litigators with publicly available data from the UK's IP courts to provide an additional layer of insight to help inform risk reduction, claims management and enhance disputes strategies.

The two firms are also hoping to work together in the future on further developments as part of the partnership.

Christopher Sharp, IP partner, Pinsent Masons said:

“We are delighted to be working with Solomonic to develop their Intellectual Property module. As litigators we draw on our experience to assess judicial attitudes and likely outcomes in cases. Solomonic will allow us to take that one step further by using intelligent data analytics to help advise clients on a statistical basis how a particular judge might approach a certain legal issue in a case, for instance, whether a judge is more or less likely to grant an interim injunction, or whether decisions of foreign courts are looked upon favourably. This will provide an extra dimension for our clients when considering case strategy and execution.”

Gideon Cohen, Co-founder, Solomonic says:

"We are thrilled to partner with Pinsent Masons. This module will deliver unprecedented analysis of IP disputes, enriched by the extensive experience and global insight of the Pinsent Masons team. By combining Solomonic’s deep analysis of judgments and court documents with Pinsent Masons' market leading expertise and reach we will be able to deliver a unique layer of data-driven litigation and business intelligence to users.”

David Halliwell, Director of Client Solutions, Pinsent Masons adds:

"The combination of skillsets and technology that make the development of this module possible is characteristic of how Pinsent Masons operates as a professional services business with law at its core. For several years we have built solutions that combine innovative resourcing and processes with technology, now we're increasingly working with providers whose mature technologies have the potential to advance and complement our existing solutions."
